Description
Rook is in his forties, tall and lean, with sun-darkened skin and a shaved head. A gold earring in his left ear, a Kaevroth-iron ring on his right hand, a trophy from a raid he doesn’t discuss. He dresses well for a pirate: clean linen, good boots, a coat that was definitely stolen from a Concord official. His smile is easy and his eyes are cold.
Pragmatic, dangerous, and more intelligent than he wants people to know. Rook plays the charming rogue because it’s useful, but underneath the persona is a sharp mind that has kept him alive and prosperous in the most dangerous waters in Aethermourne’s coastal waters. He fights dirty, negotiates dirtier, and has a code that is entirely his own: he doesn’t hurt children, he doesn’t break a deal once made, and he kills anyone who threatens Driftmere.
What he wants: Driftmere’s survival and his own power within it. The floating city is the only home he’s ever had, and he’ll protect it with a ferocity that surprises people who mistake him for a simple pirate.
GM Only
Rook is the most useful Pirate Council contact for PCs. He can be negotiated with, hired, or allied with if the stakes are framed correctly.
He knows about Sable and the Pale Margin but doesn’t know about the Veil Unbound connection. He thinks she’s an ordinary smuggler.
He captured the Trench map mentioned in the adventure hooks and is running the auction. He can be persuaded to sell to The Lantern-Keepers if given a good reason, or a good price.
