Edda Haelstrom
Mine Foreman | Hearthstone | The Ashen Dominion
Appearance
Fifties, broad, with grey-streaked hair always tied back and hands scarred from decades of mine work. Her left eye has a faint grey film, early-stage Order Sickness she hides from the Church inspectors. Wears the heavy work-leathers of the Spine miners.
Personality
Tough, maternal, pragmatic. Edda has kept her crews alive for thirty years in the deep shafts. She knows the Spine’s moods, the way the Hum changes before a collapse, the early signs of Order Sickness. She fakes inspection reports to keep sick miners on light duty instead of being “retired” to the Grey Ward (which everyone knows is a death sentence).
She is beloved by her crews and tolerated by the Church because she delivers Ashite on schedule.
What She Wants
- Survival. To keep her people alive and working, not discarded.
- Answers. The Church keeps directing crews away from the richest veins. She wants to know why.
Connections
- Hearthstone mining community
- Order of the Ashen Flame, her nominal overseers
- Spine miners, fiercely loyal to her
GM Only
Edda has noticed the Cinders’ manipulation of mining operations. She doesn’t know why the best veins are being marked as depleted, but she has copies of the discrepancies hidden in her quarters.
Plot hook: This evidence could help expose Mourne’s sabotage of Ashite production. If the PCs gain Edda’s trust (she is protective and cautious), she’ll share what she knows, but only if they can guarantee her crews won’t suffer for it.
