| Title | Abbot, Leader of the Merciful |
| Location | Weeping Isles (visits Weeping Shore) |
| Faction | The Merciful |
| Status | Alive |
Description
Sixties, slight and softly built, with a round face designed for smiling that now wears permanent gentle sorrow. His eyes are red-rimmed perpetually from the Isles’ mist and from his empathic sensitivity. He wears simple white linen robes, always damp, and moves slowly, not from age but from the weight of what he feels.
His empathic gift is genuine and uncontrolled, he feels the suffering of everyone around him, diluted by distance but never absent. He functions under this burden the way a chronic pain patient functions, by accepting it and finding purpose. He speaks softly, listens completely, and gives advice that is wise and usually unwelcome, because he tells you what you need to hear.
Roleplaying Notes
- Speaks softly, pauses often as if listening to something the players can’t hear
- Radiates sadness without self-pity
- Wants to protect the Weeping Isles and to warn someone with the power to act
GM Only
After decades of immersion in Belara’s mist, Cael has developed empathic sensitivity that extends far beyond the Isles. He can feel the Reach’s collective fear. He can feel the coastal villages’ despair.
Recently he has begun to feel something else, something vast, patient, and hungry, pressing up from beneath the sea, radiating a cold focused need that is the antithesis of everything Belara stood for. He knows Serith is stirring. He doesn’t know the specifics.
He has sent quiet messages to the Lantern-Keepers. He is waiting for someone to listen.
