Description
Orna is in her fifties, broad and strong, with callused hands and sawdust permanently embedded in her grey-streaked hair. Her face is weathered and open, creased from squinting at ship ribs in bright sunlight. She wears practical work clothes and steel-toed boots. Her one vanity is a coral-stone pendant in the shape of a ship’s prow, the Dallow family emblem.
Methodical, proud, and honest to the point of bluntness. Orna has built ships her entire life, learned from her mother, who learned from hers. She knows wood the way a Greensinger knows roots, by instinct and long practice. She takes quality personally, a flaw in a Dallow ship is a flaw in her. She is slow to trust, slower to forgive, and utterly incapable of cutting corners.
What she wants: To build the best ships in The Hollowed Reach and pass the yard to her daughter. To understand why the timber from The Verdant Marches is arriving wrong, warped, with grain patterns that spiral instead of running straight.
GM Only
The wrong timber is one of the earliest signs PCs might encounter of Serith’s corruption spreading through the Marches’ forest.
Orna doesn’t know the cause, but she knows the effect: ships built from this wood behave strangely at sea, creaking in patterns, pulling toward deeper water, developing warps that follow the spiral grain.
If the PCs investigate the timber supply chain, it leads back to the corrupted root networks of Thyrea’s Cradle.
