Prior Gault Ashworth
Church Pilgrimage Master | Crown’s Reach | Order of the Ashen Flame
Appearance
Sixties, tall and gaunt, with the geometric Ashite-ink tattoos of the Anointed caste on his forehead. White robes, immaculate. His eyes are pale grey and unnervingly steady, the look of a man who has climbed The Crown twice and come down certain.
Personality
A true believer. Gault has dedicated his life to the Church and genuinely believes Solvaen’s order is divine truth. He is not corrupt, not cruel, not a hypocrite. He is a good man inside a bad system, which makes him more dangerous than a villain, because he legitimizes the system’s worst features with his sincerity.
He manages pilgrimages with meticulous care and genuine concern for the pilgrims’ wellbeing.
What He Wants
- Service. To fulfil his duty to the Church faithfully.
- Understanding. The Crown’s Hum has changed pitch. He noticed, he reported it, and the Church told him to stop asking.
Connections
- Order of the Ashen Flame, devoted member
- Crown’s Reach, his posting
- Pilgrims of the Spine
GM Only
Gault’s second climb left him with an unshakeable conviction that something beneath the Spine is wrong. He cannot articulate what, only that the certainty he brought down from The Crown includes a warning he doesn’t understand.
He has begun keeping a private journal of unusual observations. This journal could be valuable to PCs investigating the Spine. Gault will not part with it easily, but a sincere appeal to his faith (Solvaen’s order demands truth) could persuade him.
